“A teenage musician records a beautiful and haunting album in his bedroom. Two local producers hear the album and are blown away…”
Multi-tracking on cassettes from an early age, in 2003 the 17 year old saved up money delivering pizzas to buy a portable digital multitrack recorder. Recorded in garages, basements, bathrooms and sneaking into college campuses to record piano and drums, this album was recorded using only one microphone.
It’s about damn time. This album is about time.
““There’s a line in ‘Karma Police’ about ‘he buzzes like a fridge’ and when you’re driving around, and you have the alternative stations on in the background, or in your hotel room, it’s just a fridge buzzing. That’s all I’m hearing. I’m just hearing the buzz. It’s really odd. It’s kind of funny, though, really. You have to laugh.” ”
Released August 1, 2004
Written, performed, recorded & mixed by Robert LaSalle
Mastered at Sound Cell Studios, Huntsville, AL
Robert LaSalle: vocals/keys/guitars/bass/drums/banjo/programming
Luke Freeman: Drums on "Not That Bad," "Salty Sunburn" & "Scheduled Spontaneity”
Several songs from Fridge Buzzing were later recorded for Robert LaSalle’s Sound Cell Sessions & Live 2005
During the 2020 lockdown, the artist released these 2003-2008 teenage mixes as Impaster:
(2004-2005) CYNIC & THE SUNRISE I
(2004-2005) CYNIC & THE SUNRISE II (acoustic)
(2006-2007) ROOTS OF PARADISE I
(2006-2007) ROOTS OF PARADISE II (acoustic)
(2008) LOVE IS NOT AS BLIND AS ME
Not knowing what mastering was, I just knew it was supposed to make my mixes sound better. I went to a local studio called Sound Cell.
“OK I’m all finished mastering. So Nick… It’s Nick, right? What’s your last name, Nick? I’ll print you some CDs.”
“What? Oh… I didn’t know you did that…”
“I have a CD printer here. You can buy them from me for a dollar and sell them for ten or whatever.”
“Oh cool -umm -well I was thinking about going by my first name, Robert. What do you think about Robert LaSalle?”
“I like Nick LaSalle.”
“Sounds like Nick Lashey though. Robert LaSalle was an explorer. I’m probably related to him. It’s not my real last name, but everyone mispronounces my real last name.”
“Robert LaSalle, it is.”
YOUR BLIND EYES
I recognize you
Like the back of my hand
When I'm in some hell of mine
You'd understand
I could imagine
You could lie
I could be store-bought
You wouldn't buy
Cease in a second
To throw me away
Your friendship's a burden
But I'm glad that you stayed
Don't open your eyes
I see you just fine
I know what's mine
Don't open your eyes
I love the irony
That plagues your broken mind
I'd lift you to heaven
And you'd question why
I could imagine
You could lie
I could be store-bought
You wouldn't buy
Cease in a second
To throw me away
Your friendship's a burden
But I'm glad that you stayed
Don't open your eyes
I see you just fine
I know what's mine
Don't open your eyes
It's easy to love me
I need love
It's easy to love me
I need love
Love
Love
Love
NOT THAT BAD
I want your fire
I want your fire
I want your fire
It's not that bad, whoa
I want your fire
I need your light
I want your fire
I want your fire
I want your fire
It's not that bad, whoa
Only one
I believe there's none
So I said
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want your fire
I want your fire
I want your fire
It's not that bad, whoa
I want your fire
I need your light
I want your fire
I want your fire
I want your fire
It's not that bad, whoa
There's love for love
And it's bad, she said
And she said
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
I want ya, but I don't need ya
I want ya, I want ya
It's bad, she said
SALTY SUNBURN
I'm not early
You're not late
But the world is round
In miles of ground
Sandy waters
And salty sunburn
Life is grand
Life is grand
Sitting shallow
On a salty shoreline
With time to spare
But none to share
As long as I'm
Not close to you
I'm all by myself
Don't need your help
Life is perfect in my own river
On my own land, 'cause life is grand
Life is perfect in my own river
On my own land, 'cause life is grand
The muddy banks are
Always open
To a lending hand
'Cause life is grand
I hope I'm dead
Before tomorrow
I'm lifting time
Without my mind
And I'm not early
You're not late
But the world is round
In miles of ground
As long as I'm
Not close to you
I'm all by myself
Don't need your help
Life is perfect in my own river
On my own land, 'cause life is grand
Life is perfect in my own river
On my own land, 'cause life is grand
Death
The rest is death
The rest is dead
The rest is
Ohh
It’s dead
The rest is dead
Death
GET OUT, COME BACK
Your conception
In the back of you
Have to prove it
I never understood
It's getting later
I'll show you to your room
It's getting darker
You cast a shadow
Your conception
In the back of you
Have to prove it
I never understood
It's getting later
I'll show you to your room
It's getting darker
You cast a shadow
Your shade plagues mine
I'll save your day tonight
Empty minds all rise
Your reflection
It's just an empty room
Full of mirrors
You're on the second floor
Once you're moving
Won't matter anymore
If you slow down
I'll blow you away
I'll blow you away
I'll blow you away
I'll blow you away
I'll blow
Never gonna burn
Never gonna fade
Never slow down
I'll blow you away
Never gonna burn
Never gonna fade
Never slow down
I'll blow you away
Get out
Never gonna burn
Never gonna fade
Never slow down
I'll blow you away
Get out
LONESOME DAYS
Glimpse of the city
Get up, get busy
Said we don't have all day
And you don't need to spit in it
It's an attitude problem you seem to have
What you spit in my ears is fucking blah, blah, blah
You st-st-stutter every time you speak
Because you're so, so stupid you can't even see
I fucking said that I was sorry
And words don't mean a thing
You fucking left anyways as insulted as can be
You're full of lies impending
You cheat, tease, and steal
I'll never listen to your words till your words are real
So fucking blah, blah, blah, blah
Words don't mean a thing
And fucking ha, ha, ha, ha
Happy as can be
I never said it was impossible
Ooh
I never said I was invincible
Ooh
I wasn't sent here just to conquer you
Ooh
My lonesome days can never bother you
Ooh
I never wanted to know
I never wanted to know anyways
I never wanted to know
I never wanted to know anyways
Blah, blah, blah, blah
Words don't mean a thing
And fucking ha, ha, ha, ha
Happy as can be
I never said it was impossible
Ooh
I never said I was invincible
Ooh
I wasn't sent here just to conquer you
Ooh
My lonesome days can never bother you
Ooh
I never said it was impossible
Ooh
I never said I was invincible
Ooh
I wasn't sent here just to conquer you
Ooh
My lonesome days can never bother you
Ooh
SCHEDULED SPONTANEITY
See your eyes pouring through the skies
You're the master of disguise
Thin line 'tween right and wrong
You know you're right when you can't move on
Favorite secrets soon to be sung
Sing me a song about saving someone's
Life living likely, lonely, and lame
Oh, oh, ahh
Saying something to someone who's soon to be dead
Dying in misery, shoot her in the head
It's the end and it's where you belong
It's the end and it's where you belong
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
A one, two, three, four, five, six, seven
Haters, forgivers, when dyers are livers
And a lie isn't truthful, but truth isn't useful
To useless beginners, get taught to be winners
But a loser's no cooler than soul-sucking sinners
So speak in spontaneity
Assume a fortunate destiny
I hope you know what's good and bad
What's good just makes me fucking laugh
It's a good, it's a good, it's a good old song
It's a dead end now, it's where you belong
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
It's a dead end again, and I'm not to blame
Loathe the lonely
Love the laughs
Loathe the lonely
Love the laughs
Loathe the lonely
Love the laughs
Loathe the lonely love
MORNING SONGS
Morning songs steal my pride
Early sun in my eyes
Pinch myself, "Yes I'm alive
How'd I get here last night?"
Past presents me in my mind
Don't know how much time's gone by
Memories are unclear
Hours, days, months, even years?
Don't ever let this happen to me again
Don't ever tell anyone anything
Morning songs are mine
Don't ever let this happen to me again
Don't ever tell anyone anything
Morning songs are mine
Don't ever let this happen to me again
Don't ever tell anyone anything
Morning songs are mine
And I feel just fine!
DEATH
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Death speaks to me
I know why
I know why
Death speaks to me
I know why
I know why
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Don't like what I am
Don't like what I've become
Death speaks to me
I know why
I know why
Death speaks to me
I know why
I know why
BLAME
Don't blame me
Don't blame me
Don't hang my mind
Don't blame me
Don't blame me
Don't hang my mind
I stand alone
I myself recognize we're all alone
We're all one of a kind
I stand alone
Oh destiny
Dark steps aside
Perhaps you live a lie
Dream these things
A dream will make it all alright
Alright right? right?
We're all one of a kind
I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone
I stand alone
Lose me on a topic now
A dream in sleep lost hour by hour
Awake I find my feeble mind
With lesser and lesser power
rewop eht dnif ot emit syawla s'ereht
BOULDERS BLOCKING THE DEVIL'S WAY
I've gone somewhere
You can't follow
Come bring me back my key
I know the devil
He's in my head
Won't let him get to me
You're full of lies
And I'm so full of sorrow
It's life that makes me sad
I laugh in wild eyes
You've shown blind eyes back at mine
'Cause life is all you have
Boulders next to me
Heaven's destiny
Won't let him get to me
To me, to me, to me
Mirrors spring forth to me
It's sad but fascinating
You leave me blank and dazed
Set off for traveling
Leave Satan whispering
Leave boulders blocking his way
Boulders next to me
Heaven's destiny
Won't let him get to me
Won't let him get to me
Won't let him get to me
To me, to me, to me
To me
GUILT
A driving impulsivity
Or scheduled spontaneity?
Either way, I'd love to say
A Jiminy cleaves my guilt to me
A cautious conscience cleaves itself
Brainstorms are heart-felt
Every day's a pastime
Every life's a living hell
Desperate for life
Why wonder why
Desperate for life
Why wonder why
On a lighter note, there's a minor chord
To every melodious overtone
It's harmony that keeps us close
A guilty conscience all alone
Desperate for life
Why wonder why
Guilty and despised
Why wonder why
Desperate for life
Why wonder why
Guilty and despised
Why wonder why
Desperate for life
Why wonder why
Guilty and despised
Why wonder why
BLASPHEMY
pu s'emit
Now see the skin all opened up
All severed, splattered, sewed back up
All human folk of life and lust
Can gain no shine, won't ever rust
And in perspective, sanity's forced
Religion sucks you in remorse
And God's the one that gave you strength
To call yourself a whore
Don't blow yourself, you're too sucked in
To every cell you can't get in
Your sin is but a verse to praise
With a feather in your hat, you think you'll fly away
You think you'll fly away
You think you'll fly away
You think you'll fly away
Time's up
